She looks at me, staring deep into my eyes. I can tell she’s about to cry, which is unlike Trix. “Don’t go, Syth,” she says.
I don’t know why my heart doesn’t break at those words. “Oh, come on–it’s not like I’ll never see you again.”
“But to go off to a war camp…the king’s army gave you nightmares. How will this be any different?” She grabs the paper from my hands and throws it onto the table.
“It does say it’s for the greater good–”
“But that doesn’t mean you won’t kill! That doesn’t mean you won’t be killed!”
It’s at this moment that I understand her concerns. She isn’t trying to keep me from having an adventure. She just wants me to be safe.
Still, I’m blind. I pull her into a hug. “I’m sorry, Trix. I’ve made up my mind.”
“Promise to come back if you don’t like it?”
I nod. “Promise.”
I look back once as I step out the door. She’s sitting at the table, head in her hands, crying. The first time I’ve seen her cry since Mother died six years ago.
I turn away.

Confused? Don’t worry…I would be too. Just go to Part One, Part Two, and Part Three of this. Those parts are from the main character’s perspective: Stylo. This part is from Syth’s perspective. Enjoy!
