God is a genuis.
Sometimes we miss this, or brush by it like it doesn’t have any significance. But when we actually pause and think about it, it’s actually fascinating.
I watched a couple videos with my youth group about evolution and creation and other fantastic topics. One of them addressed our cells and the enormous complexity of it all. We were created with such THOUGHT and DIVERSITY. Another video talked about the universe and the insanity of the stars and the unknown.
I just can’t wrap my head around any of it. Everything is SO complex and crazy and insane. Seriously, there’s no words to describe it. To watch a video about DNA and enzymes and bacteria and how each and every part of my body has a PURPOSE. We forget this SO MUCH. I know, scientifically, it’s not terribly exciting; sure, everything works together to function and stuff. But if we take it to a deeper level, it’s beautiful to think we that all have a purpose. We may not look like models or athletes or superheroes, but that’s okay. It’s okay because no matter what you look like or what you do, the fact that your body works fairly well is crazy. You may have some problems or disabilities or sickness, but ignore that for a moment and think about your body for a moment. The impossibility of movement and thinking and senses and coordination passes us by without a second glance. You’re too busy looking at others and their perfection. Well, guess what? I bet the person you’re looking at is actually looking at someone else, jealous of THEIR perfections. For all you know, they could he looking at YOU.
This reminds of a quote I heard by Saint Augustine: “Men go abroad to wonder at the heights of mountains, at the huge waves of the sea, at the long courses of the rivers, at the vast compass of the ocean, at the circular motions of the stars, and they pass by themselves without wondering.” This is so accurate. Sure, gazing at the stars and staring at the ocean and standing in see at all God has made is great– we need to do this more often. But we usually forget to look at ourselves and our insane bodies.
If we have a purpose, it changes EVERYTHING. So many people in the world are searching for something better, something signicicant, something worth clinging on to. “What is the meaning of life?” is such a huge question many ask. If God created us with a purpose, suddenly we matter. We’re not just a formula of random chemicals made from an explosion.
It makes all the difference that we were created by a loving God who actually personally knows us.
