Stories are not just words, just like a drawing is not just ink. There is so much more beneath the surface.

The best stories are the ones that are left OPEN. The stories that leave the reader wondering and guessing and thinking. What makes a story so beautiful is that the reader helps write the story. The author carves the words onto the page, but the reader is the one who paints it.

The best stories create wonder in a reader. You’re not supposed to critically analyze poems and intensely study novels. You’re supposed to let the story sit inside of you; let it simmer on the back burner of your mind; sink into yourself and let it run its course. It’s supposed to make you FEEL something. It’s supposed to make you wonder. The best stories are the ones that leave you in awe.

This is why I read, and this is why I write.
